George Clooney, After Helping to Push Biden Out, Reckons With Trump: ‘What Am I Supposed To Do, Storm the F*cking Capitol?’

George Clooney offered a message to President Donald Trump without directly naming him, sarcastically calling being a Democrat “nothing but fun.”

Clooney joined Stephen Colbert on The Late Show on Tuesday to promote his Broadway show Good Night, and Good Luck, based on the film he previously directed centered on late reporter Edward R. Murrow. Clooney and Colbert never actually named Trump, but the conversation turned to politics in general and eventually the election. Clooney at one point referred to Trump as the “elephant always in the room.”

“I have lost a lot of elections. The first time I voted, it was 1980. I was a Carter guy and Reagan won. I lost to some Bushes and I won with some Clintons and Obamas, and I lost — you know, this is democracy and this is how it works,’ Clooney said.

“How did it go this time for you? I forgot who you were supporting,” Colbert joked.

Clooney made waves in the 2024 presidential election thanks to an op-ed he wrote pushing then-President Joe Biden to drop his reelection campaign. Clooney was one of the earliest to begin pushing for Biden to be replaced, and the filmmaker would eventually go on to endorse then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

“What am I supposed to do, storm the f**king Capitol? You know, it didn’t work out. That is what happens,” Clooney said on Tuesday.

The Ocean’s Eleven star then wished the current president well, saying “our country needs it.”

“Good for you,” he said. “I hope you do well because our country needs it, and we’ll meet you in three and a half years and see where we go next. That’s part of the thing.”
