The View’s Hasselbeck Equates Obama’s Kamala Harris Joke With Romney’s ‘Binders Full Of Women’

The hosts of The View were mostly in agreement today that President Obama should not have had to apologize to California Attorney General Kamala Harris for calling her “by far the best-looking attorney general in the country.” But somehow, Elisabeth Hasselbeck still managed to turn the story into an attack on “pseudo-feminists” who refuse to hold Democrats and Republicans to the same standards when it comes to comments about women.

After Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters defended the president for what they saw as an innocuous joke, Hasselbeck jumped in with her analysis. “The same pseudo-feminists who attacked Mitt Romney back in this election for saying he had binders of qualified women prepared to take a job,” Hasselbeck said, “which was actually a compliment, are now just letting this go and giving the president” a pass.

While Goldberg admitted that Romney’s “binders full of women” comment was irresistible to comedians, Hasselbeck pointed out that more serious commentators also used the remark to criticize Romney’s attitude towards females in the workplace.

Walters essentially shut down the debate when she pointed out that Obama also called Harris a wonderful attorney general. “Have we gotten to the point where you can’t give somebody a compliment?” she asked in disbelief. Hasselbeck didn’t quite have an answer for that.
