During an appearance on CNN this afternoon, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) reiterated her calls for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign, this time adding his involvement in FBI Director James Comey’s termination as a reason he needs to step down.
Telling host Jake Tapper that she has called for a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation of Russian election interference and possible collusion with Donald Trump associates, she then noted that she felt this was necessary because she thinks Sessions should resign.
Explaining that part of the reason is due to her belief that he wasn’t honest about Russian contacts in his Senate testimony — an event that led to Sessions recusing himself from any investigations into the Trump campaign — she brought up Sessions’ signing off on the president’s decision to fire Comey as another basis.
“That he would sign off on firing the person who is investigating the case he is recused from,” Harris stated. “It calls into question his objectivity and his ability to keep his word when he has told the American public and Congress that he will recuse himself from being involved with the subject that he knows he has a conflict with.”
Back in early March, Harris said that Sessions “must resign immediately” following revelations that he had spoken twice with the Russian ambassador last year, contradicting what he had said during his confirmation hearing.
